BROILERS PLACED IN GEORGIA UP 4 PERCENT BROILER EGGS SET DOWN SLIGHTLY
Placement of broiler chicks in Georgia during the week ending January 12, 2008 was 29.7 million, down 1 percent from the previous week, but up 4 percent from the comparable week last year, according to the USDA, NASS, Georgia Field Office.
An estimated 35.3 million broiler type eggs were set by Georgia hatcheries, down 4 percent from the previous week and down slightly from the comparable week a year earlier. Broiler-type chicks hatched during the week totaled 29.8 million, up 1 percent from the previous week and up 4 percent from the comparable week a year earlier. Average hatchability for chicks hatched in Georgia was 81 percent.
