BROILERS PLACED IN GEORGIA UP 5 PERCENT BROILER EGGS SET UP 10 PERCENT

Placement of broiler chicks in Georgia during the week ending October 31 was 24,388,000, down 1 percent from the previous week but up 5 percent from the comparable week last year, according to the Georgia Agricultural Statistics Service.

An estimated 30,633,000 broiler type eggs were set by Georgia hatcheries, up 6 percent from the previous week and up 10 percent from the comparable week a year earlier.
Placement of broiler chicks in the 15 reporting States totaled 134,666,000, down 2 percent from the previous week but up 2 percent from the comparable week last year. Broiler type hatching eggs set were 172,348,000, up 5 percent from the previous week and up 6 percent from the corresponding week a year earlier. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 81 percent. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.
