BROILERS PLACED IN GEORGIA UP 8 PERCENT BROILER EGGS SET UP 11 PERCENT
Placement of broiler chicks in Georgia during the week ending November 7 was 23,371,000, down 4 percent from the previous week but up 8 percent from the comparable week last year, according to the Georgia Agricultural Statistics Service.
An estimated 31,008,000 broiler type eggs were set by Georgia hatcheries, up 1 percent from the previous week and up 11 percent from the comparable week a year earlier.
Placement of broiler chicks in the 15 reporting States totaled 132,428,000, down 2 percent from the previous week but up 5 percent from the comparable week last year. Broiler type hatching eggs set were 173,145,000, up 1 percent from the previous week and up 2 percent from the corresponding week a year earlier. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 81 percent. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.
