BROILERS PLACED IN GEORGIA UP 3 PERCENT BROILER EGGS SET UP 2 PERCENT
Placement ofbroiler chicks in Georgia during the week ending January 24 was 24,717,000--1 percent more than the previous week and 3 percent more than the comparable week last year, according to the Georgia Agricultural Statistics Service.
An estimated 29,655,000 broiler type eggs were set by Georgia hatcheries--slightly less than the previous week but 2 percent more than the comparable week a year earlier.
Placement of broiler chicks in the 15 reporting States totaled 138,035,000--2 percent more than the previous week and 1 percent more the comparable week last year. Broiler type hatching eggs set were 170,216,000--1 percent less than the previous week but 1 percent more than the corresponding week a year earlier. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 82 percent. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.
