Johnny's French Dip Powdered Au Jus recalled for possible Salmonella contamination
Monday, March 1, 2010
Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin alerts consumers to the recall of a French dip product that may be contaminated with Salmonella.
Johnny's Fine Foods, Tacoma, Wash., is recalling French Dip Powdered Au Jus in 6-ounce bottles and in 1.1-ounce foil packets. The product, sold in retail stores and distributed nationally, has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
The recalled products are packaged in a clear plastic bottle with a red, white and blue label or in foil packets.
The expiration date for the bottled product is 0332 while the red, white and blue foiled packets have a 02212 expiration date.
The powdered French dip was made using hydrolyzed vegetable protein manufactured by Basic Food Flavors, Inc., Las Vegas. Flavors initiated the recall when Salmonella contamination was found in the hydrolyzed vegetable protein.
Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
Consumers with this product should discard it immediately. Those with questions may contact Johnny's Fine Foods at (800) 9621462 between the hours 8 a.m. - 3 p.m., PST.
