"Feed My School" is Growing
New additions to the 2015 School Year
Georgia Grown's "Feed My School for a Week" program just received its strongest application pool for participation in the program for the 2015 school year with 34 schools. Feed My School first launched in 2011 with a goal to help bridge the gap in nutritional value and quality of food served in Georgia schools, while providing more farm to cafeteria opportunities.
"The end result will be healthier Georgia students, decreased barriers in farm to school efforts and increased awareness as students learn and experience, both educationally and nutritionally, where their food comes from."

The selection committee met with a goal of adding five new schools to the program; however, the quality of this year's applicants led to the addition of six new schools. The 2015 additions are:
Blakeney Elementary, Burke County Schools South Jackson Elementary, Jackson County Schools Waldo Pafford Elementary, Liberty County Schools Furlow Charter School, Sumter County Schools Downtown Elementary Magnet Academy, Muscogee County Schools Monroe Elementary School, Walton County Schools
The program now consists of 19 schools throughout the State of Georgia. Each school participates in the program for 3 years in order to help build their farm-to-school approach and set a foundation for sustainable farm to cafeteria options.

Georgia Grown's Executive Chef Holly Chute left New York 34 years ago to work as the official chef at the Governor's Mansion in Atlanta, Georgia. At the time, she had no idea how to cook a biscuit, and she wasn't sure what collard greens were. On Wednesday, she stopped by The Daily Meal -- bringing with her fresh produce from the Southern state -- and wowed us all with her knowledge of, enthusiasm for, and finesse in the cuisine of the Peach State.
