Imagine not being able to pick up a hamburger and fries at the drive through or go anywhere to pick up a meal. What if you were forbidden to leave your home? What if no safe food was available?
Disruption of a safe food supply could be a deliberate terrorist attack or an accident. Either cause would result in human and economic losses.
Numerous kinds of chemical, biological, radiological, explosive and nuclear incidents could seriously impact and/or shut down Georgia's $58 billion
Proper Research Needed Before Purchasing Horse
A horse can provide much enjoyment for its owner; however, if a horse is purchased without careful thought and the essential resources to care for the animal, the experience can be a nightmare for both the horse and its owner.
"All too often first-time buyers do not realize the cost and time required for maintaining a horse," said Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Tommy Irvin, "and some horses eventually are neglected or abandoned by their owners because they cannot afford to care for them. I urge first-time buyers to make sure they can provide the time, effort, and resources needed to properly care for a horse before they purchase it."
Horses traditionally have been bought through private owners or sale barns, but in today's modern world, equine also can be purchased through the Internet. It's not a good idea to buy a horse without
checking its temperament. so whichever source you use, you need to see and inspect the animal prior to purchase.
If you 're buying a horse for the first time, learn as much as you can from other horse owners. Since they have been through the process. they can tell you what to look for.
Although there are no set rules for buying a horse, following are some guidelines a potential buyer should consider before investing in equine.
Look for a horse with the age and training to match the skill of the rider. Inexperienced, first-time horse owners likely will not do well with young horses that have not been ridden or trained. In order to be able to handle the horse safely, these individuals should select a horse that is older and well-trained. Also,

(farm gate value) agriculture industry. A coordinated and multi-agency program to prevent, respond, and reduce the effects of and recover from such threats to agriculture is a crucial component of Homeland Security.
Five of the six diseases listed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as high risk pathogens for use as Weapons of Mass Destruction are zoonotic, that is they are contagious from animals to humans. With half of Georgia's top 10 agriculture commodities being animal industries, the largest being the $3.6 billion (farm gate value) poultry industry, agroterrorism is a top priority in Homeland Security.
"We've been a national leader when it comes to preparedness and response to an act of agroterror, but we must continuously look for gaps in our food and agriculture systems," says Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Tommy Irvin.
The governor established the Agroterrorism Committee as an extension of the State Homeland Security Task Force in April 2003. The Committee has 14 members representing federal and state agencies, academic institutions, and private businesses and organizations.
Georgia was one of ten states to complete a statewide homeland security agriculture assessment and the only state to include assessments from local jurisdictions, with 132 jurisdictions participating. It also was the first state

What should I look for when buying meat and seafood?
First, make sure that the package is not torn. Select a package that feels cold to the touch. Always make your meat, milk, and other dairy product selections last, just before you go to checkout. Then, go quickly and directly home. Refrigerate or freeze all of your meat, seafood and dairy products immediately. Each of these measures will help to preserve the freshness of food products and reduce the growth of bacteria.

Exhibit, or Program for the Fairgoing Public." The award honoring the Pavilion was one of five agricultural awards presented at the convention and accepted by Georgia National Fair Executive Director Michael A. Froehlich.
The Georgia National Fair competed against other fairs whose annual attendance ranged from 250,001 to 500,000. IAFE has more than 3200

member fairs and expositions throughout the U.S. and the world.
The Georgia Grown Pavilion became the center piece of Heritage Hall at the 2003 Fair after a long-standing desire to expand the Fruits Story (which started with Georgia apples and peaches) into a more complete story of Georgia's fruits, vegetables, nuts, flowers and green industry. Many of Georgia's commodity groups, including those for peaches, apples, strawberries, peanuts, pecans, watermelons, flowers, and wine grapes, as well as Georgia's Green Industry, USDA, the Houston County Master Gardeners and the Georgia Department of Agriculture, collaborated to make the exhibit a success. DNR Offers Incentive-Based Land Stewardship Program
A new incentive-based land stewardship program for private lands is now being offered by the Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division. This program, the Landowner Incentive Program (LIP), provides various incentive payments and cost sharing for projects designed to create, improve, or restore habitat for endangered and threatened species and other species of conservation concern. Focus areas selected for LIP projects include the Conasauga River and its tributaries (Murray and Whitfield Counties) and the upper Etowah River and its tributaries (Cherokee, Pickens, Dawson, Forsyth, and Lumpkin Counties) in northwest Georgia, and the Chickasawhatchee Creek watershed (Dougherty, Calhoun, Baker, and Terrell Counties), and the Red Hills region (Thomas and Grady Counties) in the southwest comer of the state.
In the Conasauga and upper Etowah watersheds, establishing stream buffer vegetation and fencing cattle away from streams are practices that a landowner can do to receive incentive or cost-share payments. These practices help protect water quality for rare mussel and fish species, other wildlife species, and people. Planting Longleaf Pine trees in the Chickasawhatchee watershed is a practice
