Agricultural seed and plants for sale
All agricultural seed must have a current germination report not more than 9 months old. All agricultural plants are required to be inspected to assure disease-free condition.
Certain varieties of seed are protected from propagation unless it is grown as a class of certified seed. For example, wheat seed such as McNair, Oasis, Coker, and Arthur may not be propagated for sale unless the grower is certified. Propagation of such seed is a violation of the Plant Variety Protection Act and the Federal Seed Act. If you have questions regarding certified seed, call the MARKET BULLETIN office or the Seed Division of the Department of Agriculture, 656-3633.

Grandpa's Garden
Sunflowers grow in most any kind of soil and a row of them provides a natural "living fence" as well as furnish a snack bar for the birds. The seeds are ready for harvest 80 days after sowing. If you would rather save the seed for the birds until winter, cover the sunflower heads with muslin or cheesecloth after they ma-
ture. To make a quick compost, fill a
plastic bag with leaves, add water and put it in the sun, suggests Mrs. H.S. Whitehurst of Greensboro.
The week of May 11-17 has been officially declared "Rodeo Week" in Georgia by Governor George Busbee.
As part of the week's celebration, the annual rodeo of the Sheriff's Posse of DeKalb County will be held at Stone Mountain Park's covered arena. For more information about this event call 243-7334.
Choosing When to Sell Crops
(Continued From Page 1)
Use market news and marketing services provided by the Extension Service and Department of Agriculture to estimate and project market prices.
Minimize risk by using forward contracts, deferred price contracts and hedging in the futures market.
One of the greatest limitations of forward contracting and hedging is the production uncertainty of agricultural crops. Production yields are difficult tr> estimate at planting due to weather, insect problems and management decisions. Some producers may not know production costs and can not contract profitably. In-
adequate financing often prevents farmers from making the most profitable production and marketing decisions.
Although the future's market has disadvantages such as margin money, market complexity, inability to lock in an exact price and the desire to hedge at less than minimum contract amount, the need for futures marketing has been well demonstrated.

creases efficiency and saves money because it eliminates duplication of effort in gathering and publishing agri-data. This cooperation also provides county data on many items which is helpful to state agriculture officials.
Most survey data is collected from farmers but also include many agriculturally related businesses such as grain elevators, packing plants, farm machinery dealers, lending
Real concerns about adequate rainfall, disappointing crop prices, soaring interest rates, and rising production costs are weighing heavily on farmers' plans this year. These uncertainties highlight the need for acreage and livestock information producers can rely on. Farmer cooperation is the key to developing dependable estimates from the upcoming surveys which will include both mail and personal enumeration procedures.

spring are down from the high levels of a year ago and producers indicate
MORE THAN MEAT
You store more than meat in the food freezer. Bones take up 25 to 30 percent of the space allocated to meat. Leave out the bones, say Extension Service home economists, and you will have more freezer space for food.
