Soil And Water
Need Protection
Soil Stewardship Week will be celebrated April 30 through May 7 with the nationwide theme being "compelling ventures".
This theme may at first portray an abstract notion. It may seem to
have little to do with the actual | work on the land which comprises [ stewardship, or I good manageme| nt, of the soil.
To those of us who work the soil, i or serve as soil and water conservation district supervisors, it is not an abstract idea. I believe we are all
(Our guest columnist this week is Amon L. Corn, Chairman, State Soil and Water Conservation Committee, 1867 West Broad Street, Athens, 30606.__________
very much "compelled" to somehow assure that this most important of our natural resources is indeed repaired and protected.
Though we are striving today, just as we have for more than 40 years, to bring every acre of land in the state under a blanket of protection, we don't fool ourselves by thinking we can do the job alone. This work must be seen by everyone as a compelling venture. There is a real need for the participation by Americans in all walks of life to make an honest assessment of their dependency on the health and productivity of the soil.
This is what Soil Stewardship Week tries to do. Soil stewardship is just as much a national challenge as those expressed in legislation on clean air and clean water. Every person has just as big a stake in the condition of the nation's soils as they do in the condition of her forests and waters.
The realization of this is now shared by too few people. Probably much of the populace believes that the fabulous American agricultural productivity is only the result of better machines and methods. This is partially true. But the production which many people take for granted only occurs where there is good land upon which to apply these machines and methods. And good, healthy land is the result of stewardship.

The Georgia Paint Horse Club is very active in promoting their breed. We enjoy your BULLETIN very much and would like to be included in commentary on horses.
Bobbie Spears Futurity Secretary Georgia Paint Horse Club Douglasville, Georgia
(Editor's note: Thank you for calling this to our attention. In an effort to avoid any future oversights, the Equine Division of the Department of Agriculture is compiling a list of all horse clubs and organizations. Contact them at the Department, Capitol Square, Atlanta 30334.

Horses, mules, ponies
for sale
People who are buying and breeding horses should ask to see the registration papers before leaving premises. The MARKET BULLETIN has received numerous complaints of people who buy a horse with the seller promising to send papers later and the papers never appear. The MARKET BULLETIN has no jurisdiction over such instances. A smart buyer and or person breeding a mare will ask to see the papers first.
In order to qualify to advertise horses, horse farmers should have had the livestock advertised in their possession 60 days or more before offering it for sale through this publication.
All horses offered for advertisement through the Market Bulletin should have a negative coggin test within the past 60 days.
AT STUD
At Stud notices will be published in the BULLETIN four times a year, in January, April, July and October. Word limit for these ads is 35 words which must also include the advertisers' name and address. Next issue will be July 5, deadline June 26.
