Georgia Horse
Is International
Georgia's own contribution to the Equine World! The Perfect Pony. The Pony with the World's Finest Pleasure Ride, now an internationally known breed.
The American Walking Pony breed was developed at Browntree
Stables in Macon, Ga. in the 1950's by crossbreeding the Reg. Welsh Pony and the Tennessee Walking Horse; the Welsh Pony contributed smaller size and Arabian type characteristics and the Tennessee Walking Horse gave the breed its smooth natural saddle gait. The Registry was established in 1968 and the office is located at the Browntree. The mailing address is Rt. 5, Box 88, Upper River Road, Macon 31201. The requirements for registration are: Sire and Dam to be registered in the American Walking Pony Asso-

ciation or; Sire or dam to be a Reg. Tennessee Walking Horse and the other a Reg. Welsh Pony until sufficient foundation breeder stock is developed or; on the inspection basis until Jan. 1, 1980, the Registry will consider registration of a pony of superior conformation and gait.
American Walking Ponies range in height from 13 hands to 14.2 hands. The gaits are the Pleasure Walk, Merry Walk and Canter. In addition to these gaits, the American Walking Pony can also trot and rack, such as Roan Alien, a foundation sire of the Tennessee Walking Horse breed who was seven gaited.
One of the highlights of the American Walking Pony National Show will be the formal driving class with the Ponies hitched to a Viceroy in side checks and shown at the Pleasure Walk and Merry Walk. The driver will be in formal attire of any combination of red, white and blue.

Caution Necessary
'" Pesticide Use
Precautions must be taken to protect field workers, applicators, animals, fish and wildlife as well as water, soil and air from pesticides. The objectives can be best obtained by using the insecticides according to the label directions. The label should be read and followed closely. If the label says you need a respirator or if skin contact is to be avoided, you will have to take these directions seriously. Some materials cause fluids to collect in the lungs even if small amounts are inhaled while others work on the nervous system by contact with the skin.
Accidents and poisoning occurs from not reading the directions and following them. Some other causes of accidents include spillage of concentrates on the skin, spraying without a shirt, not washing hands after handling pesticides and bursting hoses.
Toxicity Toxic materials may be used safely by a well trained, properly equipped applicator. The same material in careless hands can be fatal. All insecticides and pesticides must be considered po-

Dear Editor:
When we were traveling through the southern half of your state we saw a huge peanut com-
memorating your Georgia product. What is the story behind this 1-75 attention getter?
James Copeland Toronto, Canada
(Editor's note: The peanut monument at Ash-
burn,Georgia, features the likeness of a huge peanut
atop a crown proclaiming "Georgia
First in
Peanuts."
Peanut growers through the Georgia Peanut
Commission helped finance the project as well as
Gold Kist which has the "world largest and most
modern" peanut processing plant at Ashburn. The
Turner County Chamber of Commerce project was an
idea of Nora Lawerence Smith, former local
newspaper editor who requested it in her will.)

POLIO PANE (CHICKEN BRIAD)
1 broiler-fryer chicken, simmered, 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon
meat and stock pureed in blender Mazota corn oil, divided
(use 2 1/2 cups)
1/4 cup wheat germ
1 cup instant dry miMc
1 1/3 tablespoons salt
2 envelopes active dry yeast
6 cups (about) flour, divided
2 tablespoons honey
2 eggs
1 teaspoon Ac'cent flavor enhancer
Heat chicken-stock puree to lukewarm. In large mixer bowl, mix together milk, yeast, honey, flavor enhancer, 1/4 cup of the corn oil, wheat germ, salt and 3 cups of the flour. Add chicken-stock puree. Beat on high about 3 minutes. Add eggs; beat 1 minute. Add remaining flour until dough is formed; then add enough flour to make a dough that no longer clings to bowl. Use a wooden spoon to mix. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and knead about 5 minutes or until dough is smooth. Form into a ball, cover, and allow to rest right on board at room temperature 30 minutes. Punch down and form into 2 loaves. Grease 2 bread pans with remaining corn oil. Place dough in pans. Let rise in draft free place until volume is doubled. Bake in 425 degree oven until golden brown and bread is baked. Makes 2 loaves.

Place chicken, whole or cut in parts, in deep saucepan. Add 4 cups water. Bring to boil. Cover tightly, reduce heat and boil gently about 1 hour or until fork can be inserted with ease. Remove from heat. Strain broth. Refrigerate chicken and broth. If broth is extra fat, remove excess. When chicken is cool, remove meat from skin and bones. Cut into chunks. Blend on puree setting. Use 2 1/2 cups of pureed chicken and stock in recipe. Reserve remainder for later use.

The Noisette rose was developed in Charleston S.C. around 1817 by crossing Rosa Chinensis and Rosa Moschata. Phillipe Noisette, for whom the rose was named, was the neighbor of hybridizer John Champney. Noisette sent the rose to France for observation and the Champney rose soon was known as the Noisette rose.
The original Noisette is a vigorous plant but is hardy only in the South. It is erect and will grow to a height of ten feet as a climber or can be pruned as a bushy shrub. The semi-double flowers are borne in clusters of white, pink, red or yellow depending on variety. The Noisette has strong hooked thorns, smooth oval foliage and 5 to 7 leaflets.
The most popular variety of Noisette is the Marechal Niel, considered to be the most enduring representative of the class. It is described by rose books as a nostalgic yellow climber resembling tea roses more than other Noisettes. It has deep double yellow blooms which are very fragrant and long-lasting.
Other varieties include: William Alien Richardson, small double buff yellow or apricot blooms; Chromatella, large double dark yellow flowers; Fortune's Double Yellow, semi-double orange yellow flowers flecked with red; Madame Alfred Carriere, blush buds, open flowers white.

tentially toxic to man and animals.
Insecticides and pesticides are divided into three categories according to the toxicity and hazard to people. Signal words on the label tell the toxicity of the material.
A skull and crossbones symbol is used on all highly toxic materials along with the signal words "Danger" and "Poison".
Applying and Mixing
Avoid contact with the skin or inhalation of dust, mist, or vapors. If insecticides are spilled on the skin, wash immediately with soap and water. If spilled on clothing, remove clothing immediately and wash contaminated skin thoroughly. If insecticide gets into the eyes, they should be flushed with water for 5 minutes and medical aid sought immediately.
Wear protective clothing, gloves, respirators and goggles if they are called for on the label. Do not use the mouth to blow out clogged nozzles or lines or to siphon a pesticide from one container to another.
Contamination and Re-entry Label directions will give the time interval before re-entry into the field if the nature of the material is hazardous. Never use pesticides around open or shallow

Tobacco Advisory
Board To Meet
The State Tobacco Advisory Board is scheduled to meet at 10:00 AM, June 16 at the State Farm Bureau headquarters in Macon to recommend an opening date for this year's tobacco crop.
Excessive rains in south Georgia have caused an estimated 20 million dollars loss to the state's multi-million dollar flue cured tobacco industry.
First Aid If someone is poisoned by an insecticide, call a physician or get the person to the hospital. Carry the poisoning material's container so the doctor can identify the active ingredient. If the doctor is not familiar with the material, have him call a poison control center. If breathing has stopped, give artificial respiration.
Small Children Children under 5 years of age are usually victims of adult carelessness. Children will eat poisonous substances when left in their reach. Some of the materials available today are extremely toxic both orally and dermally. Store all such materials out of children's reach and practice caution at all time.
June
WATER SAFETY MONTH.
I am the grass. I come creeping over the land, singing meanwhile my song of praise. I make the earth green. I ?m beautiful in my abundance.
I live with the winds that blow across the prairie, with the dripping cliffs of the mountains, with the spring-fed brooks of the meadows. I am tall and generous, lush and cool.
I am all the grains that feed the world, the forage that pastures the stock, the beauty that bedecks altar and table. I am the grass.
We who walk upon the grass carpet every day seldom stop to give thought to how important grass really is. Each blade has its part in the food-producing chlorophyll so necessary for all animal life on earth. Grass covers the land. Grass makes a home for the little creatures that live among its blades and roots.
Grass is the gift of God, and no such gift should be treated lightly. Grass grows for everyone. When the land is abused, when it is washed away and wasted, when the grass is gone, it is from the greed and carelessness of man. Then comes another man who loves the land and restores the grass with knowledge and, skill, and the land begins to smile again. The grass reappears, the meek and forgiving grass that was so trodden underfoot. Grass forgives and forgets and comes back to bring food for animals and wealth for nations. Grass is a gift of God.
"Teach me, Father, how to go Softly, as the grasses grow ..."
