Horse Show Edition Provisions Allow Movement; Conning January 8 Scheduling Special Sales

On January 8, 1969, the Market Bulletin will carry a listing of horse shows and sales planned for Georgia during January, February, and March.
If you would like a notice printed in the Special Horse Show Edition, please have it at the Market Bulletin office no later than December 30. Any notices received after December 31 cannot be published.
For best results, notices should be listed separately and should include the following items in this order: (1) date, (2) time, (3) name of event, (4) very brief description of activities, (5) sanctioning organization or association, if desired, (6) location, (7) name, phone, and address of person who can give additional information.
Send your notice on a post card.
Word limit is 40 words per announcement. Signature of person responsible for the notice must be on the post card. Address the notice to: Horse Show, Market Bulletin, Agriculture Building, Capitol Square, Atlanta, Georgia 30334.
Mountain Folk Crafts Wanted
The Georgia Art Commission is planning to establish a Georgia Mountains Folk Crafts Museum as a non-profit, educational project. For the creation of the Museum, the Commission is interested in locating the following objects: old-time mountain crafts in good condition, hand-woven coverlets, hog rifles, whittling and carving, country furniture, hand made folk musical instruments, toys and dolls, baskets, wooden churns, spinning wheels, and home-made tools and farm equipment.
All should be made by hand in mountains or foothills. The Commission will pay a good price and take care of the items. Send description to John Burrison, Georgia State College, Atlanta 30303. Phone 5772400, ext. 242.

Although there has been a considerable decrease in the number of cases of hog cholera since the statewide quarantine imposed April 12, the Department of Agriculture plans to continue the restriction on sales of feeder and breeder pigs until Georgia is declared a hog cholera free state.
The provisions of the quarantine allow the movement of most hogs as long as inspections and permits are obtained. This procedure has worked little hardship on the hog producer and yet has been effective in that only two cases of cholera were confirmed at press time during November.
Prior to the instigation of a hog cholera eradication program in Georgia, cases were running as high as 2,000 annually, costing the hog farmer several million dollars in losses.
In 1967, this loss had been reduced to only 34 cases for the entire year. But, unfortunately, there was a serious outbreak of cholera in the spring of 1968 requiring the present quarantine.
If you desire to move any hogs, or to hold a special sale, follow the provisions listed below. If any difficulty is encountered, contact the Georgia Department of Agriculture State Veterinarians' Office or office of Animal Industry.
1. ALL hogs for slaughter may be moved at will directly to the slaughter house or through livestock auction barns.
2. Feeder and breeder pigs may move from farm to farm on permit after an inspection of the herd by a county agent, voagriculture teacher, veterinarian or a state or federal inspector.
3. Special feeder pig sales may be held at auction markets provided the sale is approved by the Georgia Department of Agriculture and all pigs originate from herds that have been inspected by a veterinarian or state inspector.
4. Special breeder sales may be held provided there has been an inspection of the herd by a veterinarian or state inspector.
5. FEEDER AND BREEDER pigs may NOT be moved through regularly scheduled sales at livestock auction markets.
