has successfully sponsored a bill of benefit to Georgia peanut farmers. With the assistance of Senator Herman Talmadge in the Senate, it has been passed by the U. S. Congress and signed into law.
The bill authorizes the transfer of peanut acreage allotments within the county.
Effective with the 1968 growing season, peanut farmers may sell up to 50 acres of their allotment to a purchaser within his county. Or, the holder of a peanut allotment may lease his quota for any period up to five
years. The passage of this bill should benefit
the small allotment holder who, under today's technical and mechanical farming procedures, cannot iustify the cultivation of a small allotment. He can be compensated by leasing or selling his allotment.
On the other hand, a farmer who so desires can possiblv acquire a sufficient allotment of peanuts to make the production more economically feasible.
In the past any lease or sale of allotment had to remain on the farm to which it was originally issued. Under the new bill, the
