AIR POLLUTION CAUSING MORE CROP DAMAGE THAN WEATHER
"If the pollutants in the air go unchecked," Dr. 0. C. Taylor of the University of California said recently, "it won't be many years before agriculture in certain parts of America ceases to exist." Dr. Taylor made this prediction during a panel discussion at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Washington, D. C.
Another agriculture expert, Dr. Robert Daines of Rutgers University, noted that "for a price, we can do something about pests. But we have no control over air pollution, at any price." The panel members said that air pollution in parts of New York, New Jersey, Florida, California, Oregon and Washington now causes more crop damage than the combined havoc of wind, cold and ice.
