FIRE ANTS IN GEORGIA
INFESTED
AREAS TREATED OR BEING TREATED
The above map shows the areas in Georgia infested with fire ants and the areas that have been or are being treated for fire ants. Federal funds for fire ant eradication programs have been increased this year from $3,300,000 to $5.300,000. If the Gsorgia legislature will increase funds from the present $600,000 to $1,000,000, an estimated two million dollars in federal funds would be forthcoming. This would give Georgia a three million dollar fire ant program rather than the current 1.2 million dollar
program and speed up fire ant eradication. The imported fire ant with its fiery sting and huge mounds creates a health menace and makes operating farm machinery virtually impossible.
