SALE OR LEASE OF COTTON ALLOTMENT

MUST BE HANDLED BEFORE JANUARY 3

The Food and Agricultural Act of 1965 will allow cotton allotments to be transferred by sale or lease and by owner to another farm. For the 1966 crop, owners and operators of farms with cotton allotments who wish to buy, sell, or lease, must file an application no later than January 3, 1966. Application must be filed with your local ASCS County Office.
Limitations on the sale or lease of cotton allotments will require a downward adjustment in yield on the farm making the sale if the yield per acre is more than 10 percent greater on the receiving farm. Farmers buying or receiving cotton allotments by lease are limited to their 1965 allotment plus 100 acres. Lienholders must

agree if there is a lien against the selling farm.
Upland cotton farmers in all counties in Georgia may sell or lease their upland cotton allotment to another farm in the same county; whereas, cotton farmers in the following counties voted in a referendum on November 23, 1965, to approve the sale or lease of cotton allotment for transfer outside the county: Atkinson, Bacon, Baker, Banks, Ben Hill, Bibb, Bleckley, Butts, Carroll, Catoosa, Charlton, Chatham, Chattahooch.ee, Cherokee, Clarke, Clayton, Cobb, Coffee, Columbia, Coweta, Bade, Dawson, Decatur, DeKalb, Dooly, Dougherty, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Greene, Habersham, Hall,

Haralson, Heard, Henry, Jackson, Jasper, Jones, Lamar, Liberty, Lincoln, Long. Lumpkin, McDuffie, Mclntosh, Miller, Monroe, Montgomery, Murray, Muscogee, Newton, Paulding, Peach, Pickens, Pike, Pulaski, P u t n a m, Quitman, Rockdale, Schley, Stephens, Taliaferro, Tattnall, Tift, Upson, Walker, Ware, Wayne, White, Whitfield, and Wilkes.
Rufus Adams, Chairman, Georgia Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation State Committee, urges upland cotton farmers to contact their local ASCS County Office for complete details on the sale and lease of cotton allotments for 1966. The transaction, for 1966, must be completed and recorded in the county office prior to January 3, 1966.
