-- THE OBITUARY --
Mrs. Garcia M. Wright, daughter of Mrs. Essie Gay Mathis and the late Mr. Grady Mathis was born in Brooklyn, New York August 17, 1957. She departed this life on Friday, December 20, 1985 at her residence in Sumter, South Carolina.
Mrs. Wright was an honor graduate of the University of South Carolina and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
She was an active member of Clark United Methodist Chur ch where she served as the membership secretary, lay speaker and past member of the Young Adult Choir.
Surviving are her husband, Mr. Caldwell Wright of Sumter, a daughter, Kristian Joi, her mother, Mrs. Essie Mathis of Brooklyn, New York; three sisters, Ms. Mary Pearl Mathis and Ms. Renita Mathis both of Brooklyn; and Mrs. Gladys Pope of Augusta, Georgia, a grand aunt, Mrs. Willie Lou Vaughn, a grand uncle, Mr. James Vaughn both of Sumter, two nephews, Anthony Mathis and Torin Pope, a niece, Trazanne Pope, her mother-in-law, Mrs. Azalee Wright of Sumter, two sisters-inlaw, Mrs. Vertrena Thompson of Augusta, Georgia, and Mrs. Deloris Wright of Sumter; three brothers-in-law, Mr. Elbert Pope and Mr. Leroy Thompson both of Augusta, Georgia; and Mr. Thomas Wright of Sumter, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Sometimes its hard to understand Why some things have to be.
But in His wisdom God has planned, Beyond our power to see.
So looking back in tenderness, Along the road we trod.
We cherish the years weve had with you, And leave the rest to God.
