THE O BITU A R Y
CHARLIE P. W ILLIAM S was born on August 15, 1930 in Eastover, South Carolina, a son of Mary Jackson Williams and the late James Williams Sr., departed this life on Friday, October 1, 1993, at Dorn Veterans Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.
Charlie was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Hopkins, South Carolina. He received his education in the Lower Richland public schools. In 1952, he began active service with the 38th Infantry Division of the United States Army, Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. As a decorated veteran, he received the Korean Service Medal Bronze Service Star, the United Nations Service Award, National Defense Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.
Mr. Williams was a retired employee of the South Carolina State Mental Hospital, where he worked for 29 years.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother, Mary J. Williams; two brothers, Robert C. Williams of Gadsden, South Carolina and Freddie J. Williams of Saginaw, Michigan; three sisters, Mary W. Adams of Gadsden, Teresa W. Roddey of Rock Hill, South Carolina and Carrie W. Cotton of Saginaw; children, Tyrone Odell Weston of Saginaw, Marrian J. Goodwin of Gadsden and Fletcher A. Goodwin of Columbia; one sister-inlaw, Lillian T. Williams; four brothers-in-law, Heyward W. Reid of York, South Carolina, Doctor Adams of Gadsden, Osbay Roddey of Rock Hill and Johnny Cotton of Saginaw; one aunt, Mrs. Lucy Tucker of Hopkins, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
