"The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear."
On September 11,1925 in Sumter, South Carolina, Rosa and Sam Williams were blessed with a baby boy, whom they named Leroy, but affectionally called "Plum". Sam died when Leroy was two years old. This left Rosa and the Good Lord to nurture and teach Leroy to love, work and pray.
Leroy attended Lincoln Elementary and High Schools. He was a favorite of teachers and everyone. He was a member of the football team where he played the running back position and there acquired the nickname of "Beaver". He was drafted into the Army where he was part of the campaign in the Phillipines. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
He returned and finished at Lincoln High and entered Morris College where he met and married Jessie Miller. He taught math for four years at Palmetto High and Elementary Schools. Leroy taught science and math at Lake View Elementary for 30 years, where he also served as assistant principal.

At an early age, Leroy joined Union Station AME Church. In the early fifties, he joined Ebenezer AME Church where he worked diligently as an usher (door keeper) and treasurer of the usher board. He served as trustee and treasurer of both the building committee and trustee board. He willingly volunteered his services to all church financial needs.
He leaves to cherish fond memories his wife, Jessie Miller Williams of the home; three sons: Leroy Arvern (Anne) of Fayetteville, NC, Edwin (Ann) of Charleston, SC, Rondi of Myrtle Beach, SC, a niece/daughter: Pamela Franklin (Barry); a grandson: Leroy Arvern, Jr. of Raleigh, NC; a granddaughter: Lisa of Myrtle Beach, SC and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Roosevelt Williams of Sumter, SC; two sisters: Wilemenia (Burgess) of Baltimore, MD, Willie Lou (James) of Sumter, SC; a motherly sister-in-law: Mabel Williams (Craig) of Baltimore, MD; a brotherly friend: Milton Page; four brothers-in-law: Joe Miller (Donna), Wilson Lemmon (Lorraine), Charles Miller, Thomas Miller and George Miller; several nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives, student, church family, neighbors and friends.
To all he bids farewell until we meet again.
