OBITUARY
OF
REVEREND BENNIE IVORY VERNON
"For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain", said the apostle Paul. We know that this would be the message of this great soul if he were able to give us a message today from the portals of heaven where he has gone to be forever with the Lord.
He was a native of Roseland, La. After serving his country during World War II and upon receiving an honorable discharge, he established residence in Augusta.
From early childhood, his life was deeply rooted in Christi anity. In 1948 the Lord bestowed upon him one of His highest honors, he was ordained to the Ministry. Since that time he has spent many fruitful years in the Master's Service. He has won untold men and women to Christ in his dedicated humble way and has even been an example for the young and old of this community to follow. To his family he was always loving and patient. Striving to make a good living for them, and to rear them in the fear and admonition of the Lord.
Today we are silent to pay tribute to that person who has lived among us as "One who went about doing good" and who always put Christ first in everything he did.
In addition to his work as a minister, he was an outstanding civic and community leader, and for almost twenty years he used his talents to supervise the Data Processing Department of The Pilgrim Health & Life Insurance Company.
We are grateful to the Lord for what Rev. B. I. Vernon did to make this a better world to live in.
He leaves to mourn his widow, the former Rosa Lee Samuels; three daughters, Miss Daphney Pearl Vernon, Miss Bobbie Jean Vernon and Miss Valeria Joyce Vernon; three sisters, Mrs. Arabella Hartley, Mrs. Rosa Bridges and Mrs. Fannie McCarter, all of Louisiana; and three brothers, the Reverend Willard Vernon and James Vernon both of Louisiana, and Roy Vernon, California; father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joe N. Samuels, Sr., seven aunts, six uncles and nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

OTHERS
Lord, help me live from day to day in such a self forgetful way that even when I kneel to pray my pray'r shall be for others. Help me in all the work I do to ever be sincere and true and know that all Vd do for you must needs be done for others. Let "Self" be crucified and slain and buried deep: and all in vain may efforts be to rise again unless to live for others. And when my work on earth is done, and my new work in hear'ns begun, May 1 forget the crown Vve won, while thinking still of others. Others, Lord, Yes, Others, Let this my motto be, help me to live for others that I may live like thee.

It is the wish of the family that more of Rev. Vernon's friends and associates could have had some final words about him. We are sure you understand why this wish could not be
observed. They want you to know, however, how deeply grateful they are for every tender consideration.
