REFLECTION OF LIFE

"God exercises the power to choose the time of our birth
*
and the time of our death,"

On April 13, 1944 in Eccles, West Virginia, Wilhelminia and Elbert Snyder were blessed with a baby boy named Bruce Elbert Snyder.
Bruce attended public school in West Virginia, excelling in sports - particularly basketball. Upon completion of high school, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served four years and left as a sergeant. He later joined the U.S. Navy where he also served four years. He was honorably discharged from both branches of the military.
Education and employment opportunities brought him to New York City. Bruce earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He was employed by the U.S. Postal service for ten years and later became a member of the New York City Transit Police Department from which he retired after twenty-two years of service. At the time of his death, Bruce was employed by the Social Security Administration where he was an active member of the Black Affairs Advisory Council and was a writer for the newsletter. He was also involved in several other organizations and associations including the National Association of Black Scuba Divers.
Evidencing his faith in God, he held a few church affiliations: Shady Grove Baptist Church (Eccles, West Virginia), a Methodist fellowship (Uniondale, Long Island), and St. Paul Community Baptist Church (Brooklyn, New York).
Bruces impact and influence will be left with such people as his wife Remita ("Myke "); his daughter Shaunna; two sons: Bruce, Jr. and Christopher; one stepson Anthony; two brothers: Darrell Williams (Ronceverte, West Virginia) and Devell Williams and his wife Lynn (Beckley, West Virginia); one sister Frances E. Williams (Silver Springs, Maryland); his mother-in-law Essie Mathis; and numerous other relatives, friends and "JIGS" (Bruce being the "Jig Master").

"But the just man, though he die early, shall be at rest. For the age that is honorable comes not with the passing of time, nor can it be measured in terms ofyears. Rather, understanding is the hoary crown for men and an unsullied life, the attainment of old age. He who pleased God was loved; He who lived among sinners was transported - snatched away, lest wickedness pervert his mind or deceit beguile his soul; For the witchery ofpaltry things obscures what is right and the whirl of desire transforms the innocent mind. Having become perfect in a short while, he reached the fullness of a long career; for his soul was pleasing to the Lord, therefore he sped him out of the midst of wickedness. But the people saw and did not understand, nor did they take this into account. "
