Our loved ones gone away now and entered through the door that leads to peace and rest and love for now and evermore. But for man death comes in all seasons and ages. Often he sends no summons before him but floats unseen on the breeze. Death comes with reckless footsteps to all. Thus it came to Mrs. Lula Bell Smalley, January 21, 1983, at the residence of her daughter in Lincoln County, Georgia.
She was the daughter of the late Mr. Jack Ramsey and Mrs. Eula Mae Williams Ramsey. She was born March 10, 1911. She was converted and joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church at an early age and served faithfully until her health failed. She was well loved and respected by everyone who knew her or came in contact with her.
We cannot keep wondering no matter how we try, and in our sad and troubled hearts, we keep asking, why?
The reason hidden somewhere in the pattern God has planned, we must believe and trust in Him, and someday well understand.
Sleep on, sleep on Bell, and take your rest, we all love you, but God loved you best.
She leaves to mourn and cherish her memories, five daughters, Mrs. Lillian Simmons, Lincolnton, Ga.; Mrs. Rosa Mae Elam, Mrs. Annie K. Woods and Mrs. Helen Duncan, Atlanta, Ga.; Mrs. Evelyn Katrina Zellars, Washington, D.C.; one son, Mr. Shelly L. Smalley, Lincolnton, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Mae Dunn, and Mrs. Minnie Bentley, Lin colnton, Ga.; fifteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, five sons-in-law, aunts, two brothers-in-law, six sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to mourn her passing.
Words are inadequate to express the humbleness and gratefulness we feel toward our friends who have consoled us during the illness and pass ing of our loved one. Your prayers, your love, your presence and service has substained us. Your cards, telegrams, flowers and gifts of food were warmly appreciated.
We saw all of these as Gods love expressed through you. Whatever you did to console our hearts we thank you very much.

God saw the road was getting rough; The hills were hard to climb. He gently closed those loving eyes, And whispered, "Peace be thine." The weary hours, the days of pain; The sleepless nights are passed, The ever patient worn out frame, Has found sweet rest at last.

A million times we have needed her, A million times we have cried. If love alone could have spared her, She would have never died. If all the world was ours to give, We would give it, yes, and more. To see her coming up our steps, And walking through our door. To hear her voice, to see her smile, To sit and talk with her a while. To be with her the same old way, Would be our fondest today. A heart of gold stopped beating, Two smiling eyes closed to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.
