OBITUARY
On May 8, 1910, in Richmond County, Augusta, Georgia, Hampton and Ella Key were blessed with God's ultimate gift, the birth of a beautiful daughter, Sophie Elizabeth. On May 25, 2002, the Creator gently cradled her in His arms and carried her into eternal rest.
Reared in a home where Christ was the center, Sophie, at an early age, accepted Christ as her personal Savior. She joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend E. A. Moss. Sophie was blessed with a beautiful voice and was active from childhood to adulthood in the various church choirs.
She was united in marriage to the late Larry Slaughter, Sr. They celebrated many happy years together. Sophie was a homemaker and a skilled seamstress. She enjoyed designing clothes for herself as well as family and friends. Her past time hobbies were playing the piano and singing.
She was not only a God-fearing and caring step-mother, a concerned and thoughtful aunt, but also a true and giving friend, whose door was always open. She was affectionately known as "Auntie."
Left to cherish her memory are: two nieces, Kathryne B. Samuels of Washington, D.C. and Gloria Jean Williams of Augusta, Georgia; one nephew John Grier of Columbus, Ohio; five great nieces; four great nephews; five great-great nieces; one greatgreat nephew; and a host of loving relatives and friends.

God came quietly and gave me gentle sleep, To those that I leave behind, please don't weep, The good Lord giveth, and at times, he taketh away,
Nothing on His earth, is forever here to stay, Rejoice now and celebrate, the life He gave to me,
All things that happen, are sure meant to be When I was alive, you were all so dear, If you just remember the good times, You'll feel that I am near,
It's times like these, that weigh heavy on the heart, Put a smile on your face, and make a brand new start,
Family and friends I loved, please don't weep; God Came Quietly, and Gave Me Gentle Sleep.
