Jennie Louise Pyatt was born December 2,1934, in Charleston, South Carolina. The second of six children, she was a daughter of the late Rudolph A. Pyatt, Sr. and Jennie Murray Pyatt.
Ms. Pyatt attended Immaculate Conception and Deming elementary schools, and graduated from Burke High School in Charleston. She received a scholarship to Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC, where she graduated with a bachelor arts degree in music.
Ms. Pyatt displayed an extraordinary talent as a child soprano, both as a soloist & in performances with an older brother and two of her $isters,She often teamed with her sister, Alice, as a duet. They were as close in life as they were in musical harmony.
Ms. Pyatt honed her skills as a vocalist with the Burke High School choir and at Claflin University. After graduating from college, she moved to New York City, where she studied under the late Wil Lawrence, a longtime accompanist for Marian Anderson. Ms. Pyatt's singing, which has been described as moving and inspirational, drew high praise from audiences, both for her work as a solo performer and as a member of church and secular choral groups.

While living in New York, Ms. Pyatt also worked as a florist, becoming a skilled floral designer. She contin ued in that profession until her retirement in 2000.

She returned to Charleston in 2000, re-establishing her ties to the community and Ebenezer AME Church, where, as a young child and teenager, she attended Sunday School and joined the church as an active member.

Ms. Pyatt died Tuesdc.,. December 7,2004, at her h. me in Carterton, after a kng illness. Never one to
complain, the faith and courage that she exhibited during her illness reflected her life and character as a mother, daughter, sister, friend and Christian. Friends and relatives agree that she will be remembered, not only for her musical talent, but also for her gentleness, compassion, wit, dignity, her love and care for her daughter, devotion to family and unshakable faith in God.

QLIlfeT P E A C E I begin and end each day with God, what pleasure it does bring,
My heart is filled with happiness, Lord, I have everything. I love the quiet peace of prayer, God gives me through the day,
And in everything I do, I want this peace to stay. God is peace and love and hope, I feel these everywhere, I walk with God's hand in mine, and never know a care.
