OBITUARY

MISS FLORA LURK, a daughter of the late Henry and Sarah Bouknight

Lurk, was born on March 1,1900 in Saluda, South Carolina. She departed this

life, at her place of residence in Saluda on Sunday Evening, September 19 ,199 3

at approximately 6:30 P .M .

At an early age, she confessed Christ, and became a member of the Rock

Hill Baptist Church. FLORA being one of the older children in the Lurk Family,

helped her mother in taking care of the younger ones. Later, as a young adult

she was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Dood Dukes, and this union, two sons,

Johnnie (Scotsy) Dukes and Benjamin (Doola) Dukes were born. Both preceded

her in death.

Leaving her sons in the loving care of her family, FLORA migrated to New

Jersey, and later to Washington, DC to provide a better life for herself and her

children. She was employed by the D .C. Transit Company for many years, until

she retired in 1963, and returned back home to her place of birth.

FLORA reunited with the Rock Hill Baptist Church Family, where she was

a member of the Senior Choir and Burial Aide Society and she was also a member

of the Women Aide Society No. 113 . There she was ?n active member, until ljer

health began to fail.

1 ,,

"AUNT FLORA" or "MISS FLORA", as she was so affectionately called by

so many, was an excellent soul food cook with specialities in Sweet Potato Pies

and Fruit Cakes. She also loved to go fishing whenever she could, and was

ALWAYS ready to travel at the "drop of a hat". The Lurk Family was blessed to

have a Matriach like Aunt Flora, who showed deep love for her family, in doing

whatever she could to encourage and help them along the way. She was very

observant, witty, somewhat of a tyrant at times, and had a very sharp mind right

up until the end of her Life. She loved people in general, and shared whatever

she had with others, without thinking about it. SHE W ILL INDEED BE SORELY

MISSED BY ALL WHO KNEW AND LOVED HER.
