The Life Of EDNA STEPHENS LATIMER
Edna Latimer was born to the late Deacon and Mrs. John and Susie Stephens on December 21, 1916 in Crawfordville, Georgia. She attended Immaculate Conception School and the Walker Baptist Institute of Augusta, Georgia.
She was a member of the Carpentersville Baptist Church (where her mother was a founding member) and remained faithful until transferring her membership to Antioch Baptist Church after her marriage to Deacon Jack Latimer in 1940. She was a dutiful member of Antioch for over 50 years and served on the Deaconess Board, the Mission Society and the Griffin and Searles Circle.
From a very early age, Edna Latimer was noted for her unique talents in educating and motivating children and began her career as a Nursery and Kindergarten Teacher in Carpentersville, South Carolina. Eventually, she would establish her own Home Nursery in Augusta, Georgia and help raise well over 125 children.
Today, many of them are pursuing professional careers in Education, Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Communications, Medicine/Pharmacy, Government, Music and the Arts and the Ministry, just to name a few.
However, she did not stop there. "Nana",asshe was affectionately known, was also very supportive and encouraging to parents in their pursuit of educational and career advancement. As a result of her commitment, "Nana" became an adopted mother and grandmother to an ever expanding extended family.
In additon to operating a Home Nursery, Edna Latimer directed numerous weddings throughout the CSRA. She was an active member of the Democratic Party and was heavily involved in Voter Registration projects for several years. She was also a member of the La BonTon Club and an Advisor to the Gordon Teens Organization (GTOs) founded by Flash Gordon.
Edna Latimer was indeed a Christian woman who believed that there was an inherent good in every person. Because of this, she touched the lives of many people as she went about her daily tasks. All Were welcome in her home. At "Nanas", you knew there was nourishment: laughter, advice, support, love and always good food. It is the hope and prayer of those who loved her so dearly, that her legacy and deeds of selflessness and service will continue to radiate through others so that this community and the nation will be a better place for all.
Edna Latimer was deeply committed to her family. She leaves behind her life partner and husband, Deacon Jack Latimer; a devoted son, Mr. Timothy Marshall; four sisters, Mrs. Armelia Lamback, Mrs. Sallie Collins, Mrs. Ruby Green and Mrs. De Rena Thomas; one brother, Mr. Robert Stephens; one great aunt, Mrs. Olivia Turner; one first cousin, Mrs. Eloise Alien; one granddaughter, Nile Imani Marshall; thirty nieces, twenty-five nephews, ten sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law, one daughter-in-law, twenty-eight great nieces, thirty-one great nephews, ten great-great nieces, ten great-great nephews, three Goddaughters, one Godson, and a host of other relatives, adopted children and grandchildren and friends.

Others
Lord, help me live from day to day In such a self-forgetful way,
That even when I kneel to pray My prayer shall be for others.
Help me in all the work I do, To ever be sincere and true;
And know that all Id do for you Must needs be done for others.
And when my work on earth is done, And my new work in heavens begun;
May I forget the crown Ive won, While thinking still of others.
Others, Lord, yes, others, let this my motto be,
Help me to live for others, That I may like Thee.
C.D. MEIGS

Prayer
LORD, make mean instrument of Your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O DIVINE MASTER, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; for it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

"Nana"

Nana youve been an inspiration to us Always there when we needed you without a fuss Now youve gone on to a greater place And oh! How well miss your smiling face.
When times were rough ... on you we could depend E!, You were called by family members and friends.
Loving everyone that you would meet - with Open arms and a smile, youd greet Very vigorous, enthusiastic and kind Every where youd go; your light would shine.
You never knew you were our hero; you were the wind beneath Our wings; WE LOVE YOU AND WILL SINCERELY MISS YOU Undisputedly!
