Obituary

Life is duty--dare it; Life is a burden--bear it; Life is a thorn-crown--wear it; Though it breaks thy heart in vain,

Though the burden bears thee down. Glose thy lips and stand the pain. first the cross. and then the crown.

On April 4, 1985, Mary Liza Broadwater Griffins's life was changed by an All-Wise, All-Knowing and AllMighty God from an earthly to a celestial existence.

She was b o m in Clarks Hill, SC on April 14, 1913 to the late Alice Bugg and Charlie Broadwater, Sr. To this union thirteen children were b o m . At age nine she was converted and baptized at the Laura Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend William Freeman, where she served as secretary of the church for a number of years. She later united with the Hosannah Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Johnson where she served on the Usher Board and Senior Choir.

In June 1943, she and the late West Griffin were united in marriage. To this union six children were bom.

Left to celebrate her homegoing are: two brothers, Willie Frank Broadwater, Philadelphia, PA and Grover Broadwater, Washington DC; one Sister in Christ, Mrs. Earlean Prescott, Augusta; six daughters, Mrs. Charity Gilyard, Clarks Hill, SC, Mrs. Alice Traynham, Randallstown, Maryland, Mrs. Willie Mae Jackson, Ms Joyce and Doris Griffin and Ms Susie Jones, all of Augusta, GA; one adopted daughter, Mrs. Valerie Harris, Augusta, GA; three sons, Mr. Eddie Griffin, Mr. Henry Griffin and Mr. Walker Griffin, all of Clarks Hill, SC; two daughters-inlaw; three sons-in-law; four sisters-in-law; thirty-five grandchildren; thirty-four great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends^also give thanks to God for the love and joy that is theirs for having Mary Liza as a part of their lives.

Perhaps, Mary Liza will be remembered best for the charming little things that vividly characterized her life: her jovial personality, her love and loyalty to her family and friends, her dedication to God and her gentlc-'~: of spirit.

Tribute

A million times we have needed you, A million times we have cried.
I f love alone could have spared you, You would have never died.
I f all the world was ours to give, W e would give it, yes; and more.
To see you coming up our steps,
A n d walking through our door.

To hear your voice, to see your smile, To sit and talk with you a while, To he with you the same old way, W ould be our fondest today. A heart of gold stopped beating, Tw o smiling eyes closed to rest.
o d broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best

Thank You
Perhaps you sang a lovely song or sat quietly in a chair;
Perhaps you sent beautiful flowers, If so, we saw then there.
Perhaps, you sent or spoke kind words, As any friends could say;
Perhaps you were not there at all. Just thought of us that day.
Perhaps you perpared some tasty food. Or maybe furnished a car;
Perhaps you rendered a service unseen, Near at hand or from afar.
Whatever you did to console the heart, We thank you so much - whatever the part.
