THE OBITUARY
A faithful mother, friend and sei'vant of the Gospel
FRANCES JUANITA EVANS was bom o f W illie and M am ie Edwards on
February 11, 1937 in Augusta, Georgia. She was the fourth o f five children and was enjoyed by family and all those around her. The family attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she gave her life to Jesus Christ. Faith, family and dedication are the hallmark for her legacy and life.
As a child, Margie White emerged as Juanita's best and most trusted friend. As children .they spent practically everyday playing together, learning from one another and growing with the other. They went to the same grade school and middle school and even attended Lucy C. Laney High School together, where Juanita played on the varsity basketball team. It seemed as though they were a pack aged deal. However, as time passed, Juanita also grew fond of Margie's older sister, Marie People. The bond between Margie, Marie and Juanita was so intense that it invoked an expression beyond friend ship to that of a familial bond. In fact, Marie Peoples, (later to be Dr. Peoples) was asked to serve as Juanita's "play mother," with emphasis on the term "mother". This was a role that Juanita and Dr. Peoples both esteemed and took very seriously. Dr. Peoples decision to accept this role changed the course of Juanita's life forever. When Juanita was 16 years old, Dr. People received permission from Juanita's biological mother to move her from Augusta, Georgia to Detroit, Michigan where she could raise her and Margie together as "sisters." Juanita was released to move with Dr. Peoples and live as "Mother" and "daughter" - roles that would define their relationship forever.
On August 15, 1961 she married the late William Tell Evans, Sr. Their union brought about two glorious children, William Tell Jr. and Renita Yvette. Juanita was a loving and dedicated mother and wife. Shortly after William Jr. was bom, Juanita worked for J.L. Hudson and worked there for 27 years before retiring in 1992, exemplifying her penchant for consistency and an impeccable work ethic.
Along with working and spending time with her family, Juanita was a faithful attendant of Christ Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership o f the late Pastor Tommie and current Pastor Dr. Marie Peoples. Juanita was multifaceted at Christ Missionary, serving as church clerk, choir member (a melodic tenor) and personal secretary to the Pastor. Juanita was ever faithful and dedicated to her local church and to the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship.
Juanita enjoyed her life to its fullest extent. Enjoying a hardy laugh with her friends and fam ily, taking long strolls through the neighborhood, and traveling across the country brought added joy to her days. Her love for music explained why she was such an eloquent dancer. And perhaps one of her most grand pastimes included rooting for her favorite professional basketball teams, the Detroit Pistons of the NBA, and Detroit Shock of the WNBA.
A woman of great intelligence, Juanita received too many certificates of completion, recog nition, and honor to number. She was an education advocate and personally furthered her academic horizons by earning an Associates Degree in Business Education from Lewis College.
She departed this life on September 14, 2007 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, her father, her mother, and her sister, Lizzie Mae Edwards, Young.
She leaves to cherish her m em ory: one son, W illiam Jr. (M elanie) o f D etroit, M I; one daughter, Renita Yvette o f San Diego, CA; two step-sons, David (Helena) and Billy (Marion) Evans both o f L os A ngeles, CA, one sister, M rs. Irene E. O 'Bryant, A ugusta, GA., one brother, Mr. Richard Sutton, Jr. (Bertha), Augusta, GA., tw o aunts, Mrs. L ouise Icylee Hill o f D etroit, Annie Hamiton of Beloit, WI, her adopted mother, Dr. M arie People, sister, Margie W hite of Detroit, MI, three Godchildren, and a host o f grandchildren, nieces and nephews, too many to name.

Tribute From Sister.
We've always been close, partly because we're family, but mostly because we've laughed and cried together, worked and played together, and made so many memories nobody else will ever share. We didn't always have a lot, but we always knew how to have fun. And whenever I had a tough time to get through, I knew I could count on you. You've been such a great sister, it's no surprise that you're a warm and loving mother, too. I will miss you something terrible. Your loving sister, always................... you will always be in my heart forever be in my heart.
