The Obituary
i
Martha was born to the union of the late Essie and Nathaniel Davis on September 1, 1943 in Sumter, South Carolina.
She attended the St. Jude Grammar and High Schools, graduating in 1963. Martha furthered her education, attending the Sumter Area Technical College. She was employed for 31 years by Gold Kist, Incorporated of Sumter, formerly the Campbell Soup Company, most recently, as a Production Supervisor.
Martha was a vibrant and caring person; she approached whatever task she undertook with enthusiasm and high energy. No one, whose privilege it was to know her, is likely to forget the candor of her speech, the courage of her faith, and warmth and growing brightness of her friendship. She shared her loving and giving spririt with her family and friends.
She was a life long member of the St. Jude Church and a dedicated member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary and the St. Jude Alumni Association. Martha took all commitments seriously and worked diligently towards the goals of these organizations.
She was a devoted and loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, granddaughter, aunt, niece and friend. She leaves to rejoice in her having lived and loved: her step-father, Harry Denson; her companion, Paul Blyther; son, Thomas Jefferson "Squirrel" Davis; daughter, Marilyn Deloris "Penny" Frye; her doting twin, Mary Chancy Davis; sisters, Ruth Davis, of Sumter, South Carolina and Betty Davis Garris, of Baltimore, Maryland; an adopted sister, Elouise Matthews, of New York City, New York; brother, Rico Jones, of Sumter, South Carolina; grandmother, Leah Rembert, of Silver, South Carolina; seven aunts, one uncle; six grandchildren; nieces, nephews, numerous cousins and other relatives, special friends and co-workers.
A beautiful life has come to an end, never again will my eyes see the rising sun;
My life on earth is done, never again will my feet feel the morning dew.
Ive made it over, Ive made it through; never again will my heart feel lonely.
My soul is satisfied, no more pain, no more suffering or strife;
If the Lord is willing, we shall meet in the other life.

" What God Hath Promised"
God hath not promised skies always blue, Flower strewn pathways all our lives through;
God hath not promised sun without rain, Joy without sorrow, peace without pain. But God hath promised strength for the day,
Rest for the labor, light for the way, Grace for the trials, help from above,
Unfailing sympathy, undying love.
In tears we watched and suffered, There was little we could do, but
Try to comfort her and pray. God saw she needed rest;
His garden must be beautiful, As He only takes the best.
It broke our hearts to lose her, but She did not go alone;
Part of us went with her, The day God took her home.
Death is just a natural thing, Like the closing of a door, As we start upon a journey, To a new and distant shore. So let your grief be softened and yield not to despair;
You have only placed your loved one In the loving Fathers Care.
