O'BrTLLA'Ky
On January 22,1931, Fred F. Cook, Jr. was born to the late Rev. Fred F. and Queen E. Cook, Sr. On September 5, 2011 Dr. Fred F. Cook, Jr. entered into rest. Dr. Cook received his early childhood education in the Richmond County School System. Dr. Cook accepted Christ at an early age. He joined Macedonia Baptist Church in May of 1943. He was later drafted into the United States Army where he served twenty three years. During this time he married his childhood sweetheart, Clara Terry, in March of 1951. To the union of this marriage God blessed them with six children: Charles A. (Patti) Cook, Houston, Tx.; Belinda I. (Robert) Tohn, Orlando, FI.; Cynthia Brown, Augusta, Ga.; Fred F. (Kimberley) Cook, III, Fayetteville, Ga.; Michael A. (Shamorrow) Cook, Atlanta, Ga.; Minister Patrick L. (Denise) Cook, Augusta, Ga.; First Lt. Jonathan K. Mallett, a grandson raised as a son, Atlanta, Ga.; InLaws: Willie Mae Calloway; Rosa (Cleveland) Jones; Carolyn Dallas; Mary (Leon) Rowe; Rev. Nathan (Sandra) Williams and Sarah Terry; Godchildren: Tony & Annette Hogues, and Rev. Clarence Brown; Special Friend of Family, David Holmes; 19 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren.
In 1970, Dr. Cook answered the Lord's call to the ministry and was licensed in October of 1970, Malboro Hights Baptist Church, Killeen Texas. He was later Ordained in May 1972, Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Columbus, Georgia. In 1975, he received his first pastoral charge at First Baptist Church, Millen, Georgia. After his retirement from the U. S. Army in 1974, Dr. Cook enrolled in Augusta Technical School in 1975, where he earned an Associate degree in Business. Later in 1996 and 1997, Dr. Cook earned two doctorate degrees in Theology and Christian Counseling respectively from Andersonville Baptist Seminary. In addition to being the pastor of First Baptist Church, Dr. Cook was also the pastor of First Shilo Baptist Church, Augusta, Georgia and served as interim and assistant pastor of several different churches throughout the CSRA. His most recent assignment was associate pastor of Second Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Augusta, Georgia. Dr. Cook is also a 32nd degree Mason, Chaplin for the Blind Rehabilitation of Augusta, member of Disabled Veterans 44, and many other social and civil groups.
Dr. Fred F. Cook, Jr. has touched the lives of many people near and far. He has run the race and fought a good fight. But it was his time to answer the call to glory. One day we will all have to answer this call and just like Dr. Cook, may the work we've done speak for us.
