Obituary of Mrs, Elizabeth Lee Callahan
Mrs. Elizabeth Lee Callahan departed this life on Monday morning, May 27, 1968. She, the daughter of the late Jim and Lucinda Lee, was born January 4, 1891, in Edgefield, South Carolina.
In the year 1908, she was converted and baptized by the late Rev. L. Gardenhire. She was united in marriage to the late Deacon George Calla han in 1912 and to this union was born four children.
Sister Callahan was a devoted wife and mother, one who always put the interest of her family first, who saw to it that her children were given the best she could provide, in loving care, spiritual nourishment, and materia] comforts. The example she lived day by day will ever be a goal for her family to strive to reach. She was faithful to her church, always present at every service unless providentially hindered from being there, and saw to it that the family group attended with her.
The memories we have of Sister Callahan will always be dear to our hearts. She was a lovable character, a person who has lived among us as "one who went about doing good" and who always put Christ first in everything she did.
Sister Callahan is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Bessie Thomas and Mrs. Annie Eubanks of Evans, Georgia, Mrs. Emma Holloway of Augusta, Georgia and Mrs. Georgia White of Bronx, New York; Three sons-in-law, Mr. George White. Mr. Greg Eubanks, Philadelphia and Mr. Tom Thomas; eleven grand children and twenty great grand children; one sister, Mrs. Carrie Gilyard. Other survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Isaac and Fannie Scott of Pennsylvania; one aunt, Mrs. Jannle Bussey of Augusta, Georgia and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces m m -rriends.
We express concern and sympathy for the children left without a mother, and bag the!:: to turn their hearts toward God who does all things well, and who will be a mother to the motherless and will comfort all who mourn.
"There's an open gate at the end of the road Through which each must go alone
And There, in light we cannot see,
Our Father, claims His own.
Beyond the gate your loved one finds happiness and rest
And there is comfort in the thought that a loving God knows best."
