Cole, president of Spelman College, accepts the 1990 "American Woman" award. The award is presented annually by the Women's Research and Education Institute (WREI) to honor distinguished leadership in pursuing equity for women. Dorothy Height, a long-time WREI board member and president of the National Council of Negro Women, presented the award to Dr. Cole, September 18, 1990, Washington, D.C.
