There are two major events that the Bonner Scholars enjoy planning and participating in: the Bonner Scholar retreat and weekend. This years spring retreat was held in Birmingham, Alabama. The Bonners toured the Civil Rights Museum and 16th Street Baptist Church. This was a very informative experience for the Bonner Scholars. The annual Bonner Scholars weekend (March 24 -26, 2000) was composed ofa Market Friday designated for volunteer recruitment. The following day was a clean-up day at Fickett Elementary School and the weekend ended with Vesper Service in Sisters Chapel. Bonner Scholars are definitely Women Who Enter to Learn and Exit to Serve.

Moving On Ub
On August 15,1998, the Class of 2002 entered the gates ofSpelman College. We were
anxious, nervous, and uncertain about our new-found freedom as college students. Our freshmanyearwasfilledwith Morehousebrothers, LowerManleyparties, ourfirst Spelman-Morehouse Homecoming, Freshman Week, and making many new friends. Now as we settle into our sophomore year, we have become more confident about our place in Spelmans society. We have become more involved in extracurricular and volunteer activities. Wemaynothavekeptintouchwithallofourfriendsfromfreshmanyear, but we know that the friendships that we still have will last a long time.
Sophomoreyeariswheneveryone hastobegintheirmajoranddecideontheirfuture plans. Plans for summer school, summer programs, and summer internships seem to overwhelmus. Asourclassesgetharder, webegintorealizehowimportantitistogoto class and keep up our GPAs. However, having fun while at Spelman gets even better because we can now drive our own cars to parties, instead of riding the shuttle. Some of usnolongerhavetoworryaboutcommunitybathrooms, visitationhours, andsharing one roomwith aroommatebecausewe canmoveoffcampustogetmorefreedom and privacy. We have quickly reached a turning point in our college career, and we anxiously move on up
to the next level.

A Tribute to the Rebels of2000
Im Jonesin for a low, slow My Spelman Sisters that triggers
ofour manifestationof Greatness I moved out of Sisters Chapel
with ease, but as I approach the gates Im left catatonic, taken aback
For fear ofbeingjust mediocre without 500 or so
other sister girlfriends just an arms length away Frankie said gotta make sure youre right,
before I let go guess thats my souls cue that were not letting go just lengthening the grasp...
fell
The Rebels, clad in club pants, black boots, and leatherjackets, begat a thunderstorm Hypnotizing: Circling the Oval,
Dorm chants, C-walkin atFreaknik Praise-dancin at church
Strutting, Divafied Sisters From the Strip to Kings Chapel Club Woody to Buckhead
SouthAfrica to NYU Sho nuff Good nuff
To fight any battle
And lead any race Lifting as we serve My power is contagious My sister in her white dress, flesh-toned stockings,

Congratulations!!
From the momentyou were born I knewyou were special. Thats why I named you Shani -Adia. In Swahili, Shani means Precious Gift from God; Adia means Little one. You weighed 5 lbs 5 oz at birth, but even then you showed strength and determination to succeed.
I am indeed proud ofyou and your accomplishments at Spelman. Iknowyouwillcontinuetosoaratdental school. Just remember god is always with you. Im most proudofyourbeingyou! Success isalways aplus, butyou are special to me in all that you are and all that you do. I think you should know that Im proud ofyou not for the things that come easily to you or those that were part ofyou from the beginning, but for your ability to overcome adversities even against the odds, and still be
able to rise to the occasion.
No, you are not perfect -and I am sorry that when you
were
small I sometimes seemed to demand perfection. You
are better than perfect, you are a unique piece ofhumanity, fallible, questioning, alwaysastonishingin your discoveries and dreams. I am everlastingly
thankfulthat alittleofme iscaughtupinyourbeing,

Our dearest Nicole,
Youve come a long way baby... Were so very very proud of all your accomplishments. You have stood steadfast on your convictions and have achieved your pursuit of academic excellence.
In August of 1996 we brought you here to Spelman and received a welcome in your chapel that we shall never forget. The Spelman faculty knew our anxieties and hopes and assured us that you were being left in extremely competent hands, the hands of tradition, the Spelman Sisters Tradition. Today, as you leave Spelman, you too carry the responsibility as a Spelman sister, not only to give back to society but also to continue to live the life of a Christian woman.Your community needs you and the world awaits your gifts. You will do great things in Gods name.
May your moccasins make happy tracks in many snows and the rainbow always touch your shoulder.

Najeema DavisWashington, yourjourneyofathousand miles began in 1981, when, as our little girl, you entered ECDC. You were curious, independent, and eager to learn.
Here you are, in the year 2000, about to leave Spelman College, as an articulate, astute, and intelligent young lady. God, your family -and friends, and we, your parents, were with you then, and are with you
now.
That, dear daughter, shall never change.
Najeema, because life is a journey, and not a destination, you will have hundreds of arrivals. Everything you experience along the way is a lesson in living.
If you approach life with these basic understandings, and with clarity and vision gained through faith that you are always moving forward, then you shall ascend to even greater heights.
Congratulations, and we are proud of you....
