- Description:
- Millennials who are vanishing from the pews is a problematic issue for the rural church setting of Holiness Temple in Selma, Alabama. Consequently, the resultant possibility is Post-millennials who might potentially mirror their decisions of flight when reaching adulthood, if something is not done intentionally and strategically to disciple them while they are present. What have we missed in ministry to the Millennials? What are the characterizations, values, socializations and human developments that are similarly present in the identity associations of Post-millennials that will give us clues regarding how to handle this potential crisis for them? What resources are readily available to sustain a plan of intervention that is feasible for a small rural church? What are the keys of re-engagement, reconnection? This Doctor of Ministry Project presents a model for the rural black church for re-engagement of the youth ages (13-17) through an approach that includes the village. A triadic ethnographic research method generated data that culminated in the conclusion that an intergenerational learning theory model of ministry within an Afrocentric framework as best practice will be successful to affect positive change in the dynamics of church participation, affiliation and relevance.
