The committee is discussing the content of the Baseline Essays that will provide guidance on teaching mathematics in Portland Schools. These essays were part of the attempt made by Portland, Oregon to end all forms of segregation in their school system and develop culturally-appropriate curriculum. Dr. Asa G. Hilliard, III was a consultant in this process.
