- Description:
- This video recording consists of the first part of a presentation given by Dr. Asa G. Hilliard on June 25, 1986, as part of a "Special Education Summer Institute." Dr. Hilliard begins speaking at 0:17:09, following several introductory speakers and an introduction by a woman identified as Evelyn Crane. In his presentation, Hilliard discusses the history of African people, starting with Ancient Egypt and Nubia. He asserts that many western scholars, in particular Alfred Toynbee and Georg Hegel, have downplayed or denied African history and achievements. Much of the discussion of this part centers on evidence of the African elements of the early dynasties of Egypt and the achievements of those dynasties.
