- On this undated video recording, Dr. Asa G. Hilliard, III addresses an audience in Detroit, Michigan. Hilliard's presentation focuses on efforts to improve student achievement among African American students. He argues that addressing the educational needs of African Americans will necessarily improve the experience of all students. He illustrates the ability of students of African descent through stories of his experiences in Liberia and also explores the achievements of Africans in history, particularly in Ancient Egypt. Hilliard stresses the need to hold students to high expectations, particularly in regard to mathematics, sciences, and languages.
