- Description:
- This mixed-methods research study examined whether involvement in Religious Life Programs has an impact on the academic achievement and sense of belonging of African American students attending a Christian affiliated Historically Black College or University (HBCU) located in the Southeastern region of the United States. Data collection consisted of a survey and interviews that gained insights into students' perspectives and experiences related to religious involvement and spiritual beliefs and their impact on academic and social integration. The findings indicated that religious involvement in general, rather than specific involvement in campus Religious Life ministries, has an impact on academic achievement and sense of belonging. Based on these results, the researcher recommends that Christian affiliated HBCUs become more intentional about promoting the spiritual development of their students.
