- Description:
- The purpose of this mixed methods research study was to identify the perceptions of novice elementary teachers' preparedness for culturally responsive teaching practices, based on their postsecondary teacher education program. There were 56 participants in this research study from 10 public charter schools across the country. The researcher sought to investigate if motivation, institution or comfort level influenced teacher perceptions of preparedness. Interviews and surveys were used to collect data, and to find emergent themes among the participant responses in this research study. The findings of this study will inform and benefit postsecondary teacher education programs by strengthening not only the theoretical aspect but also the practical application of culturally responsive teaching. This research study will also benefit schools and districts, and guide areas for future research in culturally responsive teaching practices. The conclusions drawn from the findings can help explain disparities or provide solutions to why culturally responsive teaching is important and relevant.
