- Description:
- This study examines how Black Athletic Activism shapes Africana Cultural Memory through four different eras. This study is based on how Black Athletic Activism had grown over time from the early era when Black athlete's activism was performative athletically to contemporary Black athletes whose activism is both performative politically and vocally. More importantly, Black Athletic Activism shapes Africana Cultural Memory by reinventing Africanness in America. This study examines how Africana Cultural Memory is the cultural affirmation for the Black community to see themselves through an Afrocentric perspective. Moreover, Africana Cultural Memory is manifested in art, film, television, music, and literature. This thesis examines the activism of Muhammad Ali and Colin Kaepernick and their unwillingness to deny their humanness gave them agency in a racist America.
