- Description:
- This study evaluates the effectiveness of the Relative Care Program of Fulton County Department of Family and Children Services in providing relative care givers with accurate and useful information related to relative care services for their family members. As the number of children who have entered the foster care system has increased, the number of traditional foster homes has decreased. Placement with relatives provides for numerous benefits to children but there has been a lack of supportive services given to this population. Indicators for the process evaluation will be associated with the ease of the process, inclusion in decision making, improvement to household through the services that are provided such as (i.e. monetary increase, clothing, case management, etc.) based on new categories of relative care providers. This evaluation employed analysis of 50 relative care provider cases that were existing or open effective after July 1, 2005 until November 1, 2005. Descriptive statistics including frequencies and percentages were used to convey the results of the survey for both the demographic and process findings regarding relative care givers experience with the process of the program. The ecological system theory provides for a systematic view of the individual, family and the stakeholders who are intertwined to work in the best interest of the child. A brief narrative highlights the findings and results of the study. The paper concludes with implications for social work practice as they relate to issues of relative care placements.
