- Description:
- This dissertation analyzes the politics of exchange rate and its effects on trade and investment in Nigeria 1960-1998. This study examines the history of exchange rate in Nigeria and its political and economic motivations. Both primary and secondary sources were used in this research. The primary sources came from interviews I conducted with members of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The secondary data came from journals and books from libraries. The research concluded that it is important that Nigeria develops a new vision of its future that embraces political liberalization as well as regional cooperation and integration. Improving policies alone can boost growth, but if neighboring countries together adopt policies that are harmonious, the effects on political stability and economic growth could be better than if Nigeria sought to act alone.
