- Description:
- This evaluation examined the efficacy of an HIV support group designed in part to improve the self-esteem of eight women after being diagnosed with HIV. The program setting is "Jerusalem House" which is a residential facility that houses HIV positive women. The sample consisted of eight HIV positive women that resided in Jerusalem House from September to November of 2000. Data was collected at three separate time periods over a period of three months. The participants were required to fill out a survey soliciting information about demographics, coping, social support, and selfesteem. The survey assessed if the participants benefited from the support group. The statistical tests used to analyze the data included descriptive, frequency, and Chi Square analysis. The findings of this evaluation can be used to inform other HIV support groups by helping the facilitators develop relevant interventions that will benefit the participants. Implications for social work are discussed.
