- Description:
- When students are referred to alternative education programs for poor attendance, negative behavior, peer friction, under achievement and classroom disruption, it is the responsibility of the outreach worker and Behavior Specialist to help assess, monitor and transition these students back into the regular school setting. This study evaluates the implementation of one such alternative education program, Responsive Discipline Services (RDS). A questionnaire was designed to elicit responses from the staff regarding the monitoring, and transitional process implemented by RDS. The data sources used to assess the process include written assessments, case notes, home/school visit reports, and referrals. The data were aggregated so no individual records were reported. The sample population includes four outreach workers, one social worker, and two behavior specialists. The following questions were addressed in this evaluation: What are the programs' goals and objectives? Who is the program staff and what are their duties? How are clients referred to the program? What is the program organizational structure? What are the aides and barriers that affect goal attainment? The research suggested that there is little to no research on the implementation process administered by the staff. The results of the evaluation and implications are discussed in later chapters.
