- Description:
- The objective of this descriptive study was to explore the extent to which freshmen and sophomore Clark Atlanta University students coped by means of problem solving, social support or avoidance. The second objective of this study was to determine if any differences existed in the coping strategies utilized by freshmen and sophomore Clark Atlanta University students. A total of 84 freshmen and sophomore students enrolled in Clark Atlanta University were asked to participate in this study. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. In addition, a t-test was used to make comparisons among significant data gathered from two groups - freshmen and sophomores. The results of the study indicated that while there was no statistical significance between avoidance and seeking social support among freshmen and sophomores, there was a statistical significance found in the problem solving coping used among the two groups. The independent t-test which was used to make a comparison among the two groups indicated that freshmen students use more problem focused coping than sophomores.
