- Description:
- This study used cognitive-behavioral therapy with a schizophrenic client in a local residential program for formerly homeless and mentally ill adults. The study uses a single system, ABA design to measure the effectiveness of treatment. The study measures the effectiveness of using cognitive-behavioral therapy in combination with pharmacotherapy (treatment by drugs) to improve targeted behaviors of non-compliance with medications, delusions, hostility, and social participation. The results of the study were favorable. Utilization of cognitive-behavior therapy with a schizophrenic client in a low-demand, low-stress residential program revealed positive and observable changes in all the targeted behaviors. The study supports the notion that a combination of psychotherapy and pharmocatherapy can offer improved psychosocial functioning for people living with schizophrenia.
