- Description:
- The purpose of the study was to examine to what extent a sample of African American churches in the Martin Luther King/Atlanta University Complex Village of Atlanta's Empowerment Zone are providing services to their respective communities. Through convenience sampling 25 churches were selected from a list provided by the Atlanta Empowerment Zone office and the researcher's observation. The study examined the following two major areas: demographics of the churches and the interviewees, and decision making to provide programs related to education, economics, and health. The data was analyzed by using SPSS for windows, a computerized software package for social sciences. Pearson's r and T-test were used to examine the statistical relationships. Three hypotheses were set forth by the researcher to guide the study. The findings revealed that African American churches are providing service to the African American community.
