- Description:
- This comparative analysis of compliant and non-compliant behavior in regard to socio-economic factors among Tuberculosis (TB) infected inpatients yielded baseline information regarding compliant and non-compliant knowledge and opinions on socio-economic behaviors among this population. A sample of forty-one reports were analyzed from data obtained by the Department of Social Services at Grady Health Care System for an on-going surveillance of its TB population. The findings were that the only factor associated with compliant and non-compliant behavior was substance abuse. This study offers some knowledge and practice implications for the social work profession concerning the importance of disease susceptibility from outside sources in an individual's environment. Influences by the family, community, and economics are not foreign to the social work profession. This occupation entails the awareness of social factors on the functioning of a person's day to day life, which must also include how these factors play upon disease and illness.
