- Description:
- This study examined the relationship between child sexual abuse and alcohol use. The sample for this study consisted of 30 youth in a group home at Open Gate. The group home housed both male and female sexual offenders. A questionnaire was self administered. The questionnaire was given on a weekday while the residents were not in school, preferably in the afternoon when school was out. The questionnaire was given in the group home in the family room where the residents meet everyday for group sessions. There were tables and chairs in the family room where the residents were able to complete the questionnaire comfortably and quietly. The results of the questionnaire were analyzed by frequency distribution and chi-square. The major finding in this study concluded that there is a relationship between child sexual abuse and alcohol abuse. This study also provided a framework for defining the rationale as to how one becomes a sexual abuser. This study also examined the relationships among families that abuse alcohol. The outcome was that there is a significant relationship between child sexual abuse and alcohol abuse. The literature review and the responses from the questionnaire supported the relationship.
