- The overall objective ofthis study is to clarify and expound on the relationship between HIV knowledge and condom use of substance addicted African American patients. To achieve this objective the following determinants were addressed by the researcher: 1) Effects of HIV, (2) Knowledge of HIV, (3) Condom use, and (4) Drug use. The study involved thirty adults (males and females), ranging between the ages of 27 to 59. These participants attended the day treatment program at a local treatment facility in Atlanta, Georgia. The Historical Black Colleges and University Campuses Evaluation Manual questiomiaire was administered to the participants. The study was an attempt to look at the knowledge that substance addicted African American patients have about HIV and condom use in order to assess their attitudinal changes regarding risky sexual behaviors. The results indicated no significant statistical relationship between knowledge of HIV and condom use among African American substance addicted patients.
