- Description:
- This study examined the life satisfaction of persons 65 years and older who participated in planned activities. The study was based on the premise that one's environment and an individual's participation in some form of daily activity, have an impact on one's quality of life. The three independent variables: a.) residing in a retirement community; b.) residing in a nursing home facility and c.) participating in planned activities, are considering factors when measuring an older adult's life satisfaction. An individual t-test was used to analyze data gathered from a standardized Life Satisfaction Index-Z. The results indicated that those who reside in the retirement community and participate in activities are more satisfied about some aspects of life in general than those who reside in the nursing home. The conclusions drawn from the findings suggest there is a need for professionals and programs to recognize the need to enhance and encourage an older adult's well-being.
